EUR to TRY in 2025: the year in numbers

Updated September 26, 2026

The euro averaged 44.816 Turkish lira in 2025, based on 255 ECB reference rates. That was 25.98% more than the 2024 average of 35.573. The euro opened the year at 36.452 and closed at 50.484, a rise of 38.49%. The low of the year was 36.202 on January 13, the high 50.518 on December 29.

A year of steady lira depreciation

For EUR/TRY the monthly averages read like a staircase. Every month from January to December had a higher average than the one before:

The steepest part of the climb came in spring. The March average was about two and a half lira above February, and April added roughly the same again. The widest monthly range of the year was also in March, from 38.149 to 41.4. From September onwards the pace slowed, with smaller steps each month, until December brought the euro above 50 lira.

Why the euro rose faster than the dollar

Over the same year the dollar rose less against the lira than the euro did, because the euro itself gained against the dollar in 2025. For Turkish companies and households, it matters which currency their costs and income are in: euro-linked costs rose more steeply than dollar-linked ones.

What it meant in Turkey

Prices of imported goods. Cars, machinery and many consumer goods imported from the euro area became much more expensive in lira. A product priced in euros cost well over a third more in lira at the end of the year than at the start.

Tourism. Turkey welcomes millions of visitors from the euro area. For them, prices set in lira became cheaper in euro terms as the year went on. Many hotels and tour operators price in euros for exactly this reason.

Exporters. Textile, automotive and food exporters selling to Europe received more lira per euro. Domestic inflation, however, also raised their costs in lira, so the benefit was smaller than the exchange rate alone suggests.

Savers. Many Turkish households hold part of their savings in euros or dollars. The lira value of those savings rose sharply during the year.

The calmer months

The autumn deserves a closer look. From September to November the monthly averages rose only slightly: 48.491, 48.68 and 48.891. October was the calmest month of the year, with fixings between 48.324 and 49.001, and it closed at 48.583, below the September close of 48.823. For businesses that price in euros and pay costs in lira, those months were easier to plan than the spring. December then brought a sharper step to 49.97 and the first fixings above 50.

Reading lira data correctly

With a currency that depreciates this steadily, three figures describe the year better than any single one:

  1. The yearly average of 44.816, for income and expense items in annual accounts, where the policy allows ECB rates.
  2. The year-end rate of 50.484, for balances and for comparing with 2026.
  3. The monthly averages, for budgets and for understanding when costs rose most.

Using only the yearly average to plan 2026 would understate costs, because the euro spent the whole last quarter above that level.

What to do

  1. Look at each month on EUR/TRY in 2025: monthly table.
  2. Compare the start and the end of the year on EUR/TRY in January 2025 and EUR/TRY in December 2025.
  3. Check the EUR to TRY exchange rate today before agreeing lira prices with European partners.
  4. If you receive euros in Turkey, convert only what you need for lira costs, and plan larger conversions against a written schedule.
