Still cheaper than a year ago

Despite the rise in August, the euro was cheaper in reais than twelve months earlier. The August 2025 average was 6.3439, so this August's 5.9684 was 5.92% lower. Brazilians who travelled to Europe this summer paid less for their euros than last year, even if August was more expensive than July.

What the swings mean for different readers

Brazilians paying in euros. Tuition in Portugal, a flight booked with a European airline, or a subscription billed in euros all cost the fewest reais at the start of the month. A payment on August 3 needed noticeably fewer reais than one on August 20.

European companies paid in reais. An exporter in Spain or Italy with a customer in São Paulo receives reais and converts them to euros. That works best when EUR/BRL is low. Early August was the better time, and the average inverse rate for the month was 0.16757 euros per real.

Freelancers in Brazil billing European clients. Converting euro income into reais pays more when the rate is high. The window around August 17 to 21 gave the most reais per euro.
