EUR to NOK in 2025: the year in numbers

Updated September 26, 2026

The euro averaged 11.717 Norwegian kroner in 2025, based on 255 ECB reference rates, 0.76% above the 2024 average of 11.629. The euro ended the year at 11.843, 1.07% above the first fixing of 11.717. Those calm headline numbers hide the most dramatic week of the year: in early April the euro went from its annual low of 11.274 on April 2 to its annual high of 12.12 on April 9.

The April week

Within five business days, the full range of the year was covered. The krone was at its strongest on April 2 and at its weakest on April 9. By the end of April the rate had calmed to 11.809.

The krone is sensitive to global risk sentiment and to oil prices. In periods of market stress, investors tend to sell smaller currencies such as the krone, and they buy them back when calm returns. April 2025 was a textbook example.

The rest of the year

Outside April, EUR/NOK moved in a band:

What the table tells a Norwegian reader

Monthly ranges varied a lot. April stood out with a range of almost a whole krone. March was also wide, from 11.294 to 11.82. Other months, such as January and November, moved much less.

Several months closed at an extreme. February and June closed at their monthly high, while July and August closed at their monthly low. For month-end revaluation, the closing rate can differ noticeably from the monthly average.

The yearly average is a fair summary. Unlike years with a strong trend, 2025 ended close to where it began, and the average of 11.717 sits in the middle of most months.

Practical consequences

Travel. Norwegians visiting the euro area paid roughly the same in kroner as in 2024. The worst week to buy euros was in early April.

Business. Norwegian exporters of seafood, metals and machinery sell a large share to the euro area. The April spike briefly boosted their revenue in kroner. Importers paying in euros faced the opposite effect that week.

Accounting. Where ECB rates are accepted, use 11.717 for income items and 11.843 for year-end balances. Norwegian companies often follow Norges Bank's rates, so check your policy.
