USD to MXN in 2025: the year in numbers
Updated September 26, 2026
The Mexican peso had one of its strongest years against the dollar in 2025. The dollar averaged 19.213 pesos over 255 ECB-based cross rates, and it fell from 20.771 on the first fixing to 17.973 on the last, a drop of 13.47%. The high of the year came on April 9, at 20.968. The low came almost at the very end, 17.902 on December 24.
The yearly average was still 4.84% above the 2024 figure of 18.325, because the dollar started 2025 at a high level and needed the whole year to come down.
A year of steady peso gains
The monthly averages tell a simple story. From January to December, the average fell in almost every month:
- First quarter: 20.568 in January, 20.483 in February, 20.244 in March.
- Second quarter: 20.077 in April, 19.441 in May, 19.04 in June.
- Third quarter: 18.699 in July, 18.719 in August, 18.502 in September.
- Fourth quarter: 18.426 in October, 18.422 in November, 18.089 in December.
The only small interruption was August, which averaged a little above July. The largest single step came between April and May.

April: the turning point
April 2025 was the most volatile month by far. The dollar traded from 19.52 to 20.968, a range of almost a peso and a half, and it closed the month at 19.522, almost exactly its low. After April the dollar never returned above 20 pesos.
From June onwards, monthly ranges narrowed. Most months from July to December moved by less than half a peso from low to high, which made the second half much easier to plan for businesses on both sides of the border.
What the peso's strength meant
Remittances. Mexico receives large sums from workers in the United States. A stronger peso means each dollar sent home buys fewer pesos. A family receiving the same dollar amount every month received noticeably fewer pesos in December than in January.
Exporters and maquiladoras. Factories in northern Mexico that sell to US customers and pay wages in pesos saw their costs rise in dollar terms. Exporters of cars, electronics and fresh produce earned fewer pesos per dollar of sales.
Importers and consumers. Imported goods priced in dollars became cheaper in pesos, which helped hold down prices.
Travellers. Americans visiting Cancún or Mexico City found Mexico more expensive at the end of the year than at the start. Mexicans visiting the United States enjoyed the opposite.
Using the 2025 figures
Where ECB-based rates are accepted, the yearly average of 19.213 suits income items and the year-end rate of 17.973 suits balances. In Mexico the official FIX rate published by Banco de México is usually required for tax purposes, so check which source your policy names.
Because the peso strengthened almost continuously, the yearly average is a poor guide to the level at the end of the year. The December average of 18.089 is much closer to where 2026 began.
