From the first fixing of the year, 11.422, to the last, 10.822, the euro lost 5.26%. The high of the year came early, 11.512 on January 8, and the low on April 3, at 10.72.
Where the krona made its gains
Almost all of the krona's progress happened in the first quarter. The monthly average fell from 11.48 in January to 11.247 in February and 10.968 in March. That was the fastest period of krona strength in the year.
The rest of 2025 was a long sideways stretch with one bump:
- April and May: the euro stayed low, with averages of 10.974 and 10.881. May was the strongest month for the krona.
- June and July: the euro recovered to an average of 11.199 in July, the highest since February.
- August to November: the euro eased back, with averages between 10.97 and 11.161.
- December: a final step down to 10.896, the second-lowest monthly average of the year, and a year-end fixing of 10.822.

Reading the table
January was the outlier. Its range, from 11.422 to 11.512, sat entirely above every later month's average. Anyone who compares a full-year budget with January rates will see a large gap.
Narrow ranges from May onwards. Most months after April stayed within a band of about a quarter of a krona or less. For Swedish companies, that made the second half easier to plan than the first.
Year-end near the low. The last fixing of 10.822 was close to the April low and well below the yearly average.
What it meant in Sweden
Households. Holidays in the euro area, from Spanish beaches to Alpine ski resorts, became cheaper in kronor over the year. At the end of 2025 a euro cost about 60 öre less than at the start.
Importers. Food, cars and machinery bought from euro area suppliers cost fewer kronor, which eased pressure on prices.
Exporters. Sweden exports heavily to Germany, Finland, the Netherlands and other euro countries. A stronger krona reduced their revenue in kronor. For companies with costs in Sweden and prices in euros, margins narrowed.
Borrowers and savers. Swedes holding euro savings saw their value in kronor fall during the year.

For annual accounts that accept ECB rates, the yearly average of 11.066 suits income and expense items, and the year-end rate of 10.822 suits balances. Swedish companies often use the Riksbank's rates for statutory reporting, so confirm the source with your accountant.
For planning 2026, the second-half averages and the December figure of 10.896 describe the current level better than the yearly average, which includes the high rates of January and February.
